Folk Art Cat Shadow Box Curio Shelf with Figurines

A charming piece of country folk art — a painted wood shadow box with a hand-painted terracotta-and-black checkerboard border, divided into four cubbies and filled with a whole cast of wooden cat characters. The figurines include an orange tabby, a loafing gray tabby with a peeking kitten, a calico with a raised paw, and a seated tabby batting a yarn ball. Tucked in with them are miniature painted wood props: a "Granny Katz Fish Biscuits" cat food box, a couple of tiny book blocks ("The Cat In Me," "Mr. Whiskers"), and a little "Miss Kitty" food bowl. The whole thing hangs or stands as a self-contained vignette — the kind of piece that lives on a kitchen shelf for thirty years. Light wear to the painted border consistent with age and use; figurines are intact and colors remain strong.
