Canadian Coin Lot of 7, 1951–1973, Includes 1956 Silver Dime

A tidy little group of mid-century Canadian coins — the kind that turn up in a grandparent's junk drawer and actually have some history behind them. The star of the lot is the 1956 10-cent piece, struck in 80% silver and featuring the iconic Bluenose schooner on the reverse. The remaining six are base-metal nickels and a quarter spanning 1951 to 1973. Details: - 1956 Canada 10 Cents — Elizabeth II obverse, Bluenose schooner reverse; 80% silver - 1951 Canada 5 Cents — George VI obverse, beaver reverse; base metal - 1961 Canada 5 Cents — Elizabeth II obverse, beaver reverse; base metal - 1964 Canada 5 Cents — Elizabeth II obverse, beaver reverse; base metal - 1968 Canada 5 Cents — Elizabeth II obverse, beaver reverse; base metal - 1973 Canada 5 Cents — Elizabeth II obverse, beaver reverse; base metal - 1972 Canada 25 Cents — Elizabeth II obverse, caribou reverse; base metal All circulated with moderate wear; the 1956 dime shows light toning and readable detail. The 1951 George VI nickel has a small dark spot on the obverse. Overall a nice mixed lot for a Canadian coin collector or a type-set builder. The Bluenose — the famous Nova Scotia racing schooner on the Canadian dime — was so beloved that she's been on the coin continuously since 1937, and she still sails there today.
